Ken Gumbiner, a Director of the Firm, is a member of the Dispute Resolution & Litigation practice group, and concentrates his practice in business, commercial, intellectual property, and construction litigation.  He is a graduate engineer and has over thirty years of experience in all forms of dispute resolution, including complex litigation, arbitration, and mediation.

Ken was Vice President and General Counsel for a group of engineering and construction companies between 1981 and 1984 and served as the head of the company’s contract administration department.  Since returning to private practice in 1984, he has been lead counsel in numerous cases involving everything from securities fraud to major construction disputes.

Ken is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association and was the 2000–2001 Chair of the Dispute Resolution Section.  He was appointed by the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court to serve on the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission in 2002 and was reappointed in 2004.  He is a member of the Large Complex Case Panel of Commercial and Construction Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association. He is a certified mediator and has served as a mediator in over three hundred cases in addition to his participation as an advocate.

Ken received his law degree from the University of Illinois in 1971 and undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University in 1968.  He is licensed to practice in North Carolina, Illinois, and Massachusetts and is a member of the Bars of the United States Supreme Court and the Fourth, Seventh, Eleventh, and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal.  He is a certified trial lawyer in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and a member of all North Carolina U.S. District Court Bars.
