Mike Wenig, a Director of the Firm, concentrates his practice in corporate and partnership law (including family limited partnerships), mergers and acquisitions, and state and federal taxation. Mike has years of experience counseling clients on general business matters and in structuring private equity transactions, including private placements. In addition to handling transactions in these areas, Mike has extensive experience representing individual and corporate taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, state revenue departments, and in various courts. As a result of this work, Mike has developed keen insights that enable him to assist clients in structuring their business and personal affairs in a tax advantageous manner, while maintaining a focus on their business and personal goals.
In addition to counseling clients, Mike is an award-winning speaker. He has authored materials and presented seminars on numerous business and tax topics, including choice of entity, multi-state business operations, limited liability and partnership taxation, family limited partnerships, Subchapter S corporation taxation, and state sales and use tax.
Mike received his B.S.B.A. degree, cum laude, from Northeastern University in 1980 and his law degree, cum laude, from Indiana University in 1986. He is also a licensed certified public accountant and is a member of the Tax Committee of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. Mike also serves as a member of the Tax Council of the North Carolina Bar Association (Section Legislative Chair).
