Federal, State and Local Tax Compliance, Controversy & Litigation

Our attorneys have a deep understanding of federal, state and local tax laws, including both domestic and foreign tax laws governing individuals, corporations, and all business entities, such as limited partnerships, limited liability companies (LLCs), and tax-exempt organizations.

We have years of experience guiding clients through the challenges faced in complying with federal, state and local tax laws and regulations. Our attorneys direct and manage a wide array of federal and state tax controversies for our clients, ranging from audit and administrative appeals to trial and appellate litigation.  We understand that some tax cases are best settled while others are best litigated.  We represent clients in tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and the North Carolina Department of Revenue and  other states’ departments of revenue.  We have substantial experience litigating tax cases before state and federal courts, including the United States Tax Court.

We analyze each case and provide results-oriented advice to our clients.  Our attorneys have extensive experience handling disputes related to income, sales and use, employment, ERISA, and estate tax examinations, as well as tax collection matters, such as offers-in-compromise and the negotiation of payment arrangements.  Attorneys in our Tax Practice Group work with our Dispute Resolution & Litigation Practice Group in assisting our clients with any tax litigation that may arise.
