On the evening of October 15, Tuggle Duggins attorneys Theodora Vaporis and Madison Boyer presented an estate planning seminar at the invitation of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Greensboro.
Theodora started with an overview of the core estate planning documents every adult should know about:
- Wills, which set out how your assets pass and who will handle your estate
- Trusts, which can give more control over how and when assets pass to loved ones and can help some families avoid probate
- Financial power of attorney, which names someone to manage your financial affairs if you can’t
- Healthcare power of attorney, which names someone to make medical decisions on your behalf
- Living will, which records your wishes about end-of-life medical care
Madison then covered charitable giving and the tax planning strategies that go with it. For many people of faith, supporting their church and the causes they care about is part of the legacy they want to leave. Building that giving into an estate plan can help those gifts go further.
The evening closed with a Q&A, and attendees came with plenty of thoughtful questions. We’re grateful to the St. Pius X community for hosting and to everyone who joined us.
